Wanted--U.S. Wardens
February 2, 2007
The U.S. Consulate General is seeking to expand its roster of U.S. wardens in Hong Kong and Macau.
Wardens assist consular sections in disaster preparedness by alerting U.S. citizens to emergency situations and passing on information from the post or the U.S. Department of State. Warden systems vary a great deal between large and small posts as well as between large and small U.S. communities. In Hong Kong and Macau we make broad use of the Internet and email to communicate with the American community.
We are looking for volunteers from companies and organizations with significant numbers of U.S. citizen employees or members. Volunteers would serve as U.S. wardens for their company or organization. If you are interested in volunteering, please email your name, company or organization name, the estimated number of U.S. citizens in your organization, and contact information (including fax and telephone number), to: acshk@state.gov. We'll contact you with additional details.
As a warden, your primary responsibility would be to distribute messages to U.S. citizens relayed from the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong. Messages will be relayed to you most often via e-mail, but we may also contact you by fax or telephone. Messages for U.S. citizens relayed from the U.S. Consulate General may be non-emergency, such as information on absentee voting or income tax issues, or emergency, such as information about a natural disaster or a terrorist threat. All messages sent to U.S. citizens are also posted to the U.S. Consulate General's website.
This information is provided by the American Citizens Services Unit, U.S. Consulate General, Hong Kong, tel: 2841-2211, 2841-2323, 2841-2225; fax: 2845-4845; e-mail: acshk@state.gov; website: http://www.hongkongacs.com; All services by online appointment only.
