Last-minute Voting and Watching U.S. Election Returns in Hong Kong

Still Haven't Voted?

You may come by the Consulate without an appointment during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday to pick up Federal Write-In Absentee Ballots or Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot request forms. Consulate staff are available to answer your voting questions and mail or fax your voted ballots to your local U.S. voting officials (if your state does not accept faxed ballots, please plan to drop off your voted ballots by October 29 to ensure express mail delivery by Election Day!) We can also notarize forms at no charge for the few states that require notarization.

The Federal Write-In Ballot can be used if you have already requested an absentee ballot but it has not yet arrived. The FWAB only allows you to vote for President, Senator, and member of the House of Representatives. Please note that some state registration and absentee ballot request deadlines have already passed. For more information about deadlines please visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program website or contact the Voting Assistance Officer at 2841-2211, 2841-2225 or 2841-2323 or send an e-mail to VoteHongKong@state.gov

Can't come in? The Federal Voting Assistance Program website has voter registration forms, ballot request forms, and the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot. After completing the forms on http://www.fvap.gov, you can print them out and mail them yourself. To ensure that your voted ballots are received by voting day, you may want to consider sending voting materials by fax (not all states allow voted ballots to be sent by fax) or express mail services such as DHL or FedEx. This year, in partnership with the Overseas Vote Foundation, FedEx is offering free overnight shipping of ballots to the United States from Hong Kong or Macau. For more information, please see the Overseas Vote Foundation website.

Overseas Voting Day in Macau – October 22

On Wednesday, October 22, the Consulate will hold two voting events in Macau.

The first will be held from 9:30am-10:30am at Ocean Tower, No. 388, Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano, 5/F, Taipa.

The second will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Academy of Music, located at Rua de Santa Clara, No. 19, 2/F, adjacent to City Hall and near Catholic Social Services, Rua de Santa Clara 13, Macau.

American Citizens can complete any election materials, including the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot, at both events. American Citizens are asked to bring their U.S. passport and U.S. voting address. Voters should come to the events prepared to write in the names of their Congressional and Presidential choices.

During these events, Consular Officers will be available to notarize (if required), fax and mail election materials to the United States at no charge.
