This Warden Message is to advise U.S. citizens that the U.S. Embassy in Beijing has recently issued two Travel Alerts: regarding the H1N1 Influenza Quarantine Measures that are in effect in China, and regarding the unrest in Urumqi. We also provide links to our website explaining the H1N1 quarantine procedures now effective in Hong Kong and Macau.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Alerts, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S. or Canada, or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2328. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

U.S. citizens who frequently travel to China may want to register with the U.S. Embassy Beijing or closest U.S. Consulate to receive the latest information about the situation in China. Just enter your travel itinerary and contact information at: http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/tips/registration/registration_1186.html. In case of difficulties registering online, please contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Americans living or traveling in Hong Kong or Macau are encouraged to register with the Consulate through the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security within Hong Kong and Macau. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the Consulate. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
