Consul General Donovan's Kung Hei Fat Choy Message, 2009

Joseph R. Donovan Jr., U.S. Consul General Hong Kong
Joseph R. Donovan Jr., U.S. Consul General Hong Kong

My name is Joe Donovan, and I am the American Consul General for Hong Kong and Macau. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, I would like to extend, on behalf of the people of the United States, our warmest wishes for a healthy and happy New Year to the people of Hong Kong and Macau.

2009 is the Year of the Ox – an animal that, in Chinese tradition, is associated with hard work, diligence, and productivity. A “Bull Market” on the stock exchange means prosperity and confidence. The current global economic crisis is a challenge that we all face. By working together, we can return to Bull Markets and mutual prosperity.

As President Obama said in his inaugural address, “Know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity.”
