A Century of Quilts: America in Cloth
produced in 2001 by Wisconsin Public Television, 77 minutes.
This program visits the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas where many of the 100 acclaimed quilts were featured. It also travels across America to capture the artists at work in their studios and homes, telling the stories behind the creation of these magnificent treasures.
The film has three sections:
a. Moments in Time: Quilts reflect their makers as well as the times in which they were made. By seeing quilts as records of history and documents of experience, we see how Americans have used this craft to preserve and honor a heritage.
b. Telling Stories: Besides being works of great beauty and extraordinary handwork, these quilts tell stories and at the same time, preserve these histories for future generations.
c. Quilts as Canvas: Quilts prove the perfect canvas for self-expression, they serve as a new way of seeing. From Amish quilts with their large fields of color to the contemporary work of artists, quiltmakers push the boundaries of this medium.
Rights: We have public performance and educational rights for this video. This video can be shown in almost every venue, but no entry fee can be charged.
