Clear and Present Danger: The Evolution of Modern Terrorism

55-minutes, produced 2002, examines the roots and historical evolution of terrorism. Looks at the organizational structure of terrorist groups. Investigates the geopolitical and economic environments which enable these groups to flourish.

This is a broad, encyclopedic look at modern terrorism, beginning with its roots in Ireland and Russia in the early 20th Century, its historical evolution to the present, to unveiling the organizational structure of terrorist groups. The program investigates the geopolitical and economic environments which enable these groups to flourish and wage traumatizing campaigns of horror placing entire societies under siege.

The program also investigates the global war against terrorism, revealing the inner workings of intelligence and government agencies. This program, produced in 2002, examines various deterrence mechanisms, border and immigration safeguards, technological precautions, monetary controls, and, most importantly, what preventative and humanitarian measures can be undertaken to curtail terrorist groups at their base.

CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER: THE EVOLUTION OF MODERN TERRORISM includes commentary throughout from terrorism expert and author, Jonathan White. "Unfortunately we're going to be involved in a war in the shadows for a very long time. Criminal justice forces and military forces must prepare for a long war. It may be ten years, it may be twenty, but it's going to be around for a while."

Although this program does not capture 2003/2004 terrorist activities, the information presented is still as valid today as when it was produced two years ago.
