Hong Kong's biggest and most dynamic cook-out, the Great American Barbecue '98, will be held on Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m., at Spices Restaurant, The Repulse Bay.

Since attendance is by invitation only, food and beverage industry reporters who want to cover this event should call the United States Agricultural Trade Office at 2841-2350 by 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, for additional details and to request an invitation.

This is an opportunity for Hong Kong's highly sophisticated food and beverage industry to get in on the fun of the "Great American Barbecue," a timeless tradition celebrated by Americans of all ages. The barbecue brings together family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere all its own. Festivities revolve around the unique style and delicious taste coming off the "outdoor" barbecue grill. Those lucky enough to attend will feast on an array of the finest American-style barbecue-grilled meats and poultry products and other Great American foods -- accompanied by a broad selection of high quality beers, wines and juices from the U.S.

Over the past four years, the Great American Barbecue has been very successful in highlighting high-quality U.S. food and beverage products. This year, the 5th annual Great American Barbecue features a "metropolitan" theme which highlights the upbeat pace of city life. Guests are encouraged to come as they are, as long as they are prepared to enjoy the excellent food, fine wine, popular music and great company. The Hong Kong Chefs Association is again supporting the event.

Hosts this year include the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office, USA Poultry & Egg Export Council, U.S. Meat Export Federation, U.S. Wheat Associates, Mid-America International Agri-Trade Council (MIATCO), U.S. Potato Board, Illinois Department of Agriculture and Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. More than 50 company sponsors with over 125 unique, high-quality food and beverage products are featured.
