USS Ronald Reagan Sailors and Hong Kong Children Make "Hundred-Blessing Blankets" for Needy Overseas Children
News Release
March 9, 2007
Friday
On Friday, thirty sailors from the visiting U.S. aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan, visited the Salvation Army's Chan Kwan Tung Kindergarten in Yaumatei, Kowloon. The local children entertained the navy crew with traditional lion dancing after working side-by-side with the sailors to make two "Hundred-blessing Blankets." The crew will act as "Goodwill Ambassadors" for the Hong Kong children and pass the traditional Chinese blankets with piggybank patterns to an organization serving underprivileged children in Korea. Before interacting with the children, the volunteers also helped the Salvation Army collect clothes donated from the public. Such community service projects are a common feature of U.S. Navy port calls.
