USS George Washington Strike Group Sailors Support Local Community

News Release
November 2, 2009
Monday

A little-known fact about U.S. sailors' visits to Hong Kong is that one of their ship's top priorities is involvement in community service projects. During the USS George Washington Strike Group's visit to Hong Kong, more than 350 sailors participated in 18 community service projects in the HKSAR. The volunteers cut trees, cleaned brush, packed donated goods, painted walls, played sports with people with learning disabilities, repaired tools, played games with school children, danced with senior citizens, and made repairs to an animal welfare site.

Such activities are a common feature of U.S. Navy port calls. The USS George Washington Strike Group is now visiting Hong Kong.
