Culinary Ambassador Chef Ben Ford Experiences Hong Kong food culture Nov. 19 – 27, 2013

November 25, 2013

The U.S. Consulate General welcomes renowned American chef and U.S. Culinary Ambassador Ben Ford to Hong Kong from November 19-27 for a program of cultural exchange showcasing America's high-quality agricultural exports. Arranged through the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Culinary Partnership, Chef Ford's week-long program in Hong Kong has enabled him to explore Hong Kong's rich culinary culture, and to share his unique craft-driven approach to cooking.

Since coming to Hong Kong, Chef Ford has met with local food bloggers and writers, toured Hong Kong's popular wet markets, tried famous local dishes, shared and promoted ingredients and menus in restaurants and cultural organizations, including at the Conrad Hotel and the Asia Society, volunteered in local food charity organizations, met students, and engaged with the media. For photos of Chef Ben Ford's activities in Hong Kong, please check the Consulate's Facebook or official Weibo accounts.

Tomorrow, Chef Ford will join the annual Great American Texas BBQ carnival in Hong Kong. Organized by the U.S. Meat Export Federation in conjunction with the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office in Hong Kong and the Texas Beef Council, this annual event celebrates American food and beverages in a festive atmosphere of friendship and family, and features live music, cowboy hats, boots and scarfs, and attracts more than 1,000 guests from Hong Kong's food and restaurant community.

Commenting on Chef Ford's visit to Hong Kong, U.S. Consul General Clifford A. Hart, Jr., noted, "The U.S. Consulate General is thrilled to bring Chef Ford to Hong Kong for this program. The Diplomatic Culinary Partnership is but one of the United States' many programs to promote mutual understanding with peoples throughout the world. As some of you know from my Facebook postings, I believe food has the power to help people get to know one another better, regardless of their cultures or nationalities. Chef Ford's visit is deepening and broadening the ties between Hong Kong and the United States, and showcasing the high-quality U.S. agricultural exports that have made Hong Kong the United States' 4th largest market for exports of high value food and beverage products."
