GUTIERREZ STATEMENT ON CHINESE TEXTILE AGREEMENT

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez released the following statement on the textile agreement announced today by U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman and Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai:

"I applaud today's announcement of a broad textile agreement between the United States and China," Gutierrez said. "This agreement will provide certainty to our domestic manufacturers, importers and their employees. It also demonstrates our commitment to working within the WTO process to resolve differences with our trading partners.

Today's agreement also highlights the value we place on aggressively enforcing our trade agreements to provide a fairer and more certain trading environment for American businesses and American workers."
