Hong Kong: A/S Kelly Meeting

Question: Please provide a read-out of A/S Kelly's visit to Hong Kong.

Answer: EAP Assistant Secretary James Kelly stopped in Hong Kong at the end of a trip through Southeast Asia as part of his participation in the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting. While in Hong Kong, he met for 30 minutes on May 16 with Hong Kong Chief Executive (CE) Tung Chee-hwa. A/S Kelly and CE Tung discussed a wide range of issues in the U.S.-Hong Kong bilateral relationship including Hong Kong's continuing process of democratization.
